Dianthus

Dianthus

Dianthus species are beloved by gardeners for their dainty, often spicy-scented flowers and basically undemanding nature.  The plants are generally low-growing and mound-shaped, and they feature attractive, blue or gray-green, lance-shaped to grass-like leaves.  Dianthus love full sun and dry to evenly moist soil that is well drained.  Alkaline to neutral PH is best.  Butterflies visit the blooms often and these plants make terrific flowers.
