Gaura

Gaura

This is a native North American genus of charming and graceful perennials. Plants are vase-shaped and multistemmed, growing up to four feet by the end of summer. The long blooming delicate flowers have reflexed petals and prominent stamens and are held directly on the stems. This plant prefers well-drained, moist soil. Remove spent flowering spikes and flowering will continue. Cut back to eight inches midseason of second year to encourage a fuller growth. Companion plants include sedums, grasses, and iris.
