Gazania

Gazania

Gazanias bear solitary, hot-colored, daisylike flowers atop leafless stems.  The flowers close at night and in cloudy weather.  Gazanias love full sun and poor to average, light, and very well drained soil.  They thrive in heat and dry soil and also tolerate salt spray.  They do not bloom well in rich soil and tend to rot in areas with humid, wet summers or constantly wet soil.  Use gazanias in the front of beds and boarders, as edging plants along paths, to add color to rock gardens, and in containers.  They are ideal for seaside gardens and also attract butterflies.
